Where to go Canoeing & Kayaking Near our Inn
The Root River, Minnesota’s most popular river, is just minutes away from our Bed and Breakfast. The Root River Water Trail offers visitors the perfect example of the timeless, scenic, and historic nature of Minnesota’s Bluff Country. The river itself is fairly gentle and easy for both canoeing and kayaking for most levels of experience, with no rapids. Along the journey, you’ll enjoy picturesque farmland, quaint riverside towns, and eventually 300-foot tall towering limestone bluffs rising above you.
The Root River also provides habitat for over 40 species of birds, including blue herons, egrets, wood ducks, and several species of raptors. Other commonly-spotted wildlife includes deer, gray fox, red fox, coyotes, raccoons, woodchucks, squirrels, weasels, and badger, and river otters. Look closely as you travel through the bluffs, and you may see a Timber Rattlesnake sunning itself on the rocky outcroppings.
