Carriage House

Looking for a quiet and private getaway? This space is perfect for honeymooners and for couples wanting complete privacy.

Our Carriage House features a spacious bright room with private entrance, overlooking our pond and fountain, decorated in a modern Asian motif.  It has a galley kitchen, dining table, comfortable seating, king-size bed, gas fireplace, and TV/DVD player. The full bathroom has a two-person spa tub, shower, and separate stereo system.

You’ll enjoy a hot breakfast brought to your room each morning at 9 a.m. We set out your breakfast for you. The breakfast will include coffee or tea, juice, fresh fruit, a baked good and a hot entree. If there is room at the main dining room table for you to join the rest of the guests in the morning at 8:30 a.m. for breakfast, we will extend this invitation to you.

The kitchen is fully equipped, including a Keurig single-cup coffee maker. There is a microwave, stove, toaster, refrigerator and basic kitchen utensils to cook dinner, should you choose to make your own lunch or dinner.

We also provide various books, cribbage, chess, and a selection of DVDs and CDs for your enjoyment.

You’ll have private parking behind the Carriage House, with easy entry through the side door of the Carriage House. Climb the flight of stairs to your private, wonderful full second floor, overlooking the fountain and pond, and our lovely gardens.

AMISH SUITE

This unique, spacious third floor suite features lovely Amish furniture. Hand-made traditional quilts from the local Amish adorn the two king-size beds. Knotty pine covers the many angles of the Victorian roof; the center of the room is more than 17 feet from floor to ceiling. The room is cooled with central air conditioning and a ceiling fan in the summer and has two electric wall heaters in the winter. There is a large, private bathroom with shower.

The room overlooks the lawn and treetops, and provides a wonderful retreat to curl up with a good book, watch TV, or just take a nap. There are various board games for you to choose from. Seating includes a new sitting area with Ekornes leather sofa and loveseat (pictures coming soon), and a round dining table. Extra blankets and quilts are stored in the dresser.

The room has a TV, small refrigerator and a Keurig single cup coffee maker.

Scandinavian Suite

This large, bright room with knotty pine walls and a natural pine floor features an antique oak-leaf carved bed with a queen-size mattress. The room is based on traditional Norwegian and Swedish homes, with the pinewood stained the red and blue colors typical of Norway, and the bathroom painted the bright yellow seen in Sweden. The room was part of an addition, built in 2001.

The room features a two-person spa whirlpool, an over-sized shower in the bathroom, and double sink vanity featuring knotty pine countertops.

Atrium doors lead to a private balcony — providing a perfect place to read a book, enjoy a beverage, or simply gaze at the stars on a cool, clear night. The river birch trees provide shade and privacy.

The room has a TV and a Keurig single cup coffee maker.

A hand-made Nisse doll watches over you as you sleep, perched on the chest of drawers near your bed.

Heather Suite

The Heather Suite features oak floors, antique oak and ash furniture, and a comfortable queen bed with no footboard. The bed has an Abigail Adams matelassé bedspread with an ornate floral design framed by French scrollwork and finished with scalloped fringe (Source: Bates Mill Store). The room’s bay windows overlook the fountain and pond to the north.  The room features art of some of our favorite artists: our son Nathan, and friends Frankie Gould and David Pavlik. The bathroom is quite large (it was once the maid’s bedroom), and features a large two-person whirlpool with a rain shower, and a sink dropped into an antique oak mirrored chest of drawers.

ROSE SUITE

Facing west, the Rose Suite is a two-room suite with a bay window, a queen bed and an adjoining reading room, with a new cozy love seat for reading and relaxing. In addition, the room has its own private porch where you can enjoy the afternoon breeze and watch the birds at the fountain or on the feeders in the yard. Decorated in rich Queen Anne cherry furniture, this charming suite offers a private bathroom with a shower.

The sitting room was originally Mr. Habberstad’s private study. In later years when the house was a hospital, the bathroom was a medication dispensing room, while the bedroom and study served as the hospital baby nursery and labor/delivery room.

Orchid room

The Orchid Room is a Southern-facing bright, airy room furnished with beautiful 1870s walnut antiques, featuring a comfortable queen bed and a large private full bath with tub and shower. The marble sink is dropped into an antique walnut commode, with a matching walnut mirror. Leather armchairs are perfect for relaxing or reading a book.

When the house was built in 1897, the room housed the original bathroom. The bedroom was probably Mrs. Habberstad’s bedroom.
