Enjoy a Spring Getaway in Lanesboro

Of all the things to do in Lanesboro this spring, getting outside and exploring Bluff Country should be at the top of your list. Spring is, after all, the season of renewal. It's the season when Mother Nature makes her grand reappearance; when brightly colored flowers start to peak out from the ground, and when the verdant hills remind us of this region's natural beauty. After a winter cooped up indoors, a spring getaway is the perfect time to stretch your legs and take in deep lungfuls of fresh air. Here are a few of our favorite ideas to get you out and exploring in Lanesboro this spring:

  • Lanesboro is a veritable biking mecca, with the Root River State Trail running right through downtown. The trail was originally the Milwaukee Railroad, but has since been converted to 42 miles of incredibly scenic and paved bike trail. Along the way, you'll cross over wooden bridges and traipse alongside the river, taking in the scenic river-carved bluff lands of southeastern Minnesota. If you don't want the hassle of bringing your own bike with you, Little River General Store offers bike rentals, and we have bike parking at the Inn.
  • Book your Spring Getaway at our Lanesboro Bed and Breakfast TodayExplore Amish country around Lanesboro on the Bluffscape Amish Tours, which start for the season on April 11, 2019. This is the perfect opportunity to learn about the Amish communities in the area, as well as purchase Amish-made goods at an Amish Farmers Market. These tours are approximately 3 hours long.
  • Visit the Lanesboro Dam, which was built in 1868. It is one of only six gravity arch dams left in the United States, and is included on the National Registry of Historic Places.
  • Go underground into the Niagara Cave, which has been rated as one of the top 10 caves in the country. The mile-long hike underground will take you 200 feet below the surface, where you'll discover fossils ~450 million years old, see massive cave formations, and view an underground stream and waterfall. There's even a subterranean wedding chapel if you're interested!
  • In the evenings, enjoy dinner followed by a play at Lanesboro's renowned Commonweal Theatre. The Commonweal stages professional plays at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and at 1:30 p.m. on Sundays.
  • Explore downtown Lanesboro, which is filled with vibrant shops, museums, and art galleries all worthy of exploration.

Ultimately, visitors to Lanesboro fall in love with the region's picturesque bluffs, which rise high above the winding river traversing the valley below. Southeastern Minnesota is a world unto itself, lying in stark contrast to the rest of Minnesota, which is largely flat. Here, we are part of the Driftless Area, and home to a unique topography called Karst. It's these two features we thank for the incredible beauty that continues to bring visitors to our area, and allows our community to thrive in a way many small towns do not. Come see what Lanesboro is all about, and book your spring getaway at our Minnesota Bed and Breakfast today.
